Introduction

It’s the type of conductor most used worldwide and it is composed of a steel core and one or more hard drawn aluminum layers. But what’s the ACRS meaning? The steel core, that is the mechanical support, can be composed of galvanized steel wires or Aluminum Clad Steel wires (ACS).

The wires of the conductive layers could be made of hard drawn aluminum or of thermal aluminum alloy and they have a rounded section.

Conductors, Aluminium Clad Steel Reinforced (ACSR/AS or ACSR/AW) are c concentrically stranded conductors with one or more layers of hard drawn 1350-H19 aluminium wires on Aluminium Clad steel wire core. The core can be single wire or stranded depending on the size.

The mechanical properties of ACSR/AS conductors are similar to ACSR conductors but offers improved ampacity and resistance to corrosion because of the presence of aluminium clad steel wires in the core. These conductors are better replacement for ACSR conductors where corrosive conditions are severe.
